President's Message
2010-2011
FELLOW MEMBERS OF THE EXETER LIONS CLUB:
I am extremely honored with this opportunity to serve as your Club President.
This club has served the Exeter Community for over 70 years and I’m sure this
great group of dedicated members will continue to serve for many more.
I’d like to see the club grow with new members and find new events that
would have all members active in various Club activities.
I came to Exeter in 2003 as a fresh corporate world retiree. My new neighbor
recruited me for membership. I
realized that here was a group of hard working, fun loving, and slightly twisted
folks where I could easily fit in!
As someone who didn’t know a soul here, the thought of having 50 new friends,
that were all movers and shakers in the community, couldn’t be half bad!
The rich history and tradition of this
club encompass all the integrity and hard work of Lions International.
We have a great club with a proven track record of serving the youth and
less fortunate in our community.
We as Lions are who we are, because of our families.
We must never forget to acknowledge and thank them for their support, as
we serve others.
Again, I am humbled
by the trust and confidence you have placed in me.
I will work very hard to deserve that trust and to live up to the lofty
standards of my predecessors.

LION OF THE YEAR
The Lion of the Year is an annual honor bestowed on the member of
the club who is exemplary in his or her efforts towards the goals and purposes
of the club. The Lion of the Year is, in fact, an example of the type of Lions
Member who not only participates in the club and its related community
activities, but unselfishly gives added time and effort beyond the normal scope
of club duties. The Lion of the Year is the ultimate award of the Exeter Lions
Club and is awarded to one club member annually.

THE LION’S PIN
Don’t overlook me, Lions. I’m the
Lion’s Pin. Right up here in front. Put
the spotlight on me because I am proud to play a part in the lives of the men
and woman who wear me as their symbol of service to the community.
I’ve witnessed excitement, sadness, and happiness.
I’ve been with my wearer as eyes of
deceased Lions were removed for deposit in the eye bank.
I was there when I watched as the hungry
were fed and the destitute cared for.
I have seen the leader dogs instill in a blind person a new kind of
confidence as they went about their sightless world.
I have heard the hearts of the retarded pounding with joy when
Lions visit them. I’ve seen and heard the
laughter of children in playgrounds enjoying recreational facilities and
leadership provided by Lions.
Yes, I have traveled all over the world and can recall thousands of
incidents diverted from sadness to gladness because I am a symbol of service to
the world.
If I could really talk I’d be too filled with emotional pride to
say more than “Thank you and may God
bless and protect you.”
LIONS CODE OF ETHICS
To show my faith in the worthiness of my vocation by industrious
application to the end that I may merit a reputation for quality of service.
To see success and to demand all fair remuneration or profit as my
just due, but to accept no profit or success at the prices of my own self
respect, lost because of unfair advantage taken or because of questionable acts
on my part.
To remember that in building up my business it is not necessary to
tear down another’s; to be loyal to my clients or customers and true to myself.
Whenever a doubt arises as to the right or ethics of my position or
action towards another to resolve such doubt against myself.
To hold friendship as an end and not a means.
To hold that true friendship exists not
on account of the service performed by one to another, but that true friendship
demands nothing, but accepts service in the spirit in which it is given.
Always to bear in mind my obligations as a citizen to my nations,
my state, and my community. To give them my unswerving loyalty in word, act, and
deed. And to give freely of my time, labor, and means.
To give aid to other less fortunate by giving my sympathy to those
in distress, my aid to the weak, and my substance to the needy.
To be careful with my criticisms and
liberal with my praise; to build up and not destroy.
LIONS CLUB OBJECTIVES
TO CREATE and foster a spirit of
understanding among the peoples of the world.
TO
PROMOTE
the principles of good government and good citizenship.
TO TAKE
an active
interest in the civic, cultural, social, and moral welfare of the community.
TO UNITE
the clubs in the bonds of friendship, good fellowship, and mutual understanding.
TO PROVIDE
a forum for the open discussion of all matters of public interest; provided
however, that partisan politics and sectarian religion shall not be debated by
club members.
TO ENCOURAGE
service minded persons to serve their community without personal financial
reward and to encourage efficiency and promote high ethical standards in
commerce, industry, professions, public works and private endeavors.
